Bible Question

What is the Meaning of the Resurrection?

Answer

The Power of the Resurrection – Do You Know If You’re Truly Alive?

The resurrection of Jesus isn’t just a powerful story—it’s the very foundation of the Christian faith. It offers something truly life-changing: the promise of salvation and new life to everyone who believes in Him. Romans 10:9 puts it plainly: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

But here’s a question we don’t ask often enough:

Saved from what? And what are we saved into?

The answer takes us straight to the heart of who we are—and what we’ve lost. Because whether we realize it or not, every one of us starts out in the same place: spiritually dead.

Where It All Began

In the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam one command: “Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:17). But Adam chose to disobey. And in that moment, something inside him died. Not his body—he lived physically for 930 years (Genesis 5:5)—but his spirit. He lost the life-giving presence of God.

And that spiritual death wasn’t just his problem. It became ours, too.

Genesis 5:3 tells us that Adam’s son Seth was born “in his image and likeness”—which means Seth inherited not just Adam’s humanity, but also his spiritual condition. Separated from God. Spiritually lifeless.

Romans 5:12 says it clearly: “Sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.” And 1 Corinthians 15:22 sums it up: “In Adam all die.”

It’s a sobering truth—but maybe the more important question is this:

Do you know if you’re spiritually dead? Because most people don’t. You can feel very much alive on the outside, yet be completely cut off from the life of God on the inside.

But Here’s the Good News

Jesus came to reverse everything Adam lost.

He died in our place, taking the full weight of our sin and death. But He didn’t stay in the grave. He rose again—and in doing so, He made it possible for us to truly live. Not just survive. Not just be better versions of ourselves. But to be spiritually alive.

His resurrection is what breaks the curse of sin and death. It’s what reconnects us to God. It’s what breathes life into dead hearts and makes us new from the inside out.

“How Much More” – The Overflowing Grace of God

One of the most beautiful phrases in the Bible is “how much more.” It shows us that God’s grace doesn’t just meet our need—it overwhelms it.

Romans 5:10 says: “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!”

Think about that: If Jesus’ death was enough to forgive your sin, how much more will His life now fill you with power, peace, and purpose?

The resurrection isn’t just something to believe in. It’s a reality you can live in.

The Same Spirit Lives in You

Romans 8:11 puts it this way: “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.”

Let that sink in:

  • The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave…

  • Can live in you.

  • And make you alive. Right now.

You’re not just forgiven—you’re born again. You’re not just spared from judgment—you’re filled with God’s presence and have eternal life!

What Happens When You Believe?

When you put your trust in Jesus, everything changes.

  • You’re spiritually reborn.
Jesus said in John 5:24: “Whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”

  • You receive the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 says that when you believe, you’re “marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.”

  • You are never alone.
God promises in Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Through the resurrection of Jesus, you’re not just promised a future in heaven—you’re given new life today. A Spirit-filled life. A purpose-filled life. A life of freedom from sin and power to walk with God.

So Where Do You Stand?

Are you spiritually alive—or are you still spiritually dead?

If you’ve never invited Jesus into your life, you don’t have to stay disconnected from God. Jesus already made the way. And He said it plainly in John 10:10: “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.”

And Romans 10:9 gives you the step to take: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Saved from spiritual death. Given eternal life.

All you have to do is believe—and ask Him in. Right here. Right now.

This is the hope. This is the power. This is the gospel.
